Waihi Beach Volunteer Coastguard was formed as an incorporated society in 1990
- It was established as local people were concerned that the shifting Bowentown Bar was a hazardous threat to the growing number of boat users at Waihi Beach.
- Waihi Beach Coastguard provides search and rescue capability around Waihi Beach, Bowentown heads,northern Tauranga Harbour and up tp 20 miles offshore past Tuhua (Mayor Island).
Waihi Beach Volunteer Coastguard is affiliated to Coastguard New Zealand and is a response unit for NZ Coastguard Eastern Region. |
